Hello Pre-health Scholars!

For those who are applying to health professions graduate programs this coming spring 2023, HPAO is pleased to announce that we will be offering the annual Application Preparation Process (A.P.P.) for all six health professions:

  • Medicine (MD, DO, MD/PhD)
  • Physician Associate (Physician Assistant)
  • Dentistry
  • Veterinary Medicine
  • Optometry
  • Pharmacy

A.P.P. is a voluntary process designed to support those who are applying in the 2023-2024 admissions cycle in the health professions. The process offers a full professional review of your application materials including:

  • Personal Statement
  • Activities/Experience Section
  • Letters of Recommendation
  • Covid-19 Impact Statement
  • Autobiographical Questions
  • Formal Mock Interview
The application preparation process is the only way to have your entire application reviewed. If you are unable to participate by postponing your application, missing a deadline, or not being eligible, availability to meet with the advisor about your application will be limited to whatever can be covered in one thirty minute advising appointment.

Mandatory Application Preparation Process (A.P.P.) Meeting

To be eligible for the application preparation process (A.P.P.), applicants must attend one of the two A.P.P. meetings listed below. It will be in-person, location TBD (will be notified at least a week in advance).

  • Monday, October 10th from 9:30am – 11:00am @ Engineering 201
  • Monday,  October 10th from 5:30pm – 7:00pm @ Engineering 300

Topics that will be discussed in the A.P.P. meeting:

  • Self-assessment – “am I ready to apply this cycle?”
  • Preparation timeline – “when should I start drafting my personal statement, ask for letters of rec. etc.?”
  • Application timeline – “when do I edit/submit my application?”
  • Application review eligibility – “can I have my application reviewed by HPAO?”
  • Application Preparation Process – “what are the benefits of participating?”
  • Applicant Commitment – “how much time and effort is expected?”
  • Q & A

Primary Eligibility based on GPA: The following GPA’s are based off the latest admissions statistics from the 2021/2022 cycle. Applicants who were below these cumulative GPAs for their health profession were at a significant disadvantage and were unable to accomplish their goal of being accepted. A cumulative GPA is defined as the GPA earned that includes all courses taken from any college or university. A GPA appeal is a one to two page explanation of the circumstances in your pre-health journey that give context for not meeting the cumulative GPA eligibility for this process. If your GPA falls within the range listed below then you may submit a GPA appeal here.

  • MD
    • Cumulative GPA: 3.4 +
    • GPA Appeal: 3.2-3.39
  • DO
    • Cumulative GPA: 3.3+
    • GPA Appeal: 3.1-3.29

I would also like to note that for this application cycle, HPAO will not be offering Committee Letters for any students. We have a very high demand in the office this year and are unable to offer committee letters without compromising the direct support our students need.

Please fill out this  Intent to Apply  form if you are interested in taking part in this A.P.P. cycle.

We hope that you can take advantage of this amazing opportunity as it will help you prepare your application materials in a timely manner and submit the best application possible.
