Welcome to the San Diego State University Health Professions Advising Office. We are happy to help you through your victories and challenges of being a prehealth scholar!

In order to build a strong foundation of knowledge about what it means to be a prehealth student at SDSU and to understand fundamental advice and key factors on what makes an applicant competitive, the following tasks are required before you are able to meet one-on-one with the advising staff at HPAO.

Step 1. Join our Canvas page! Be sure to fill out the form on the homepage to be added to our HPAO Canvas homeroom. We upload all prehealth and HPAO opportunities to this page. You can also easily access all of our advising availability through our Canvas.

Step 2. Check your prereqs! 😀
– All Health Professions Schools will require prerequisite courses to be completed in order to be eligible to apply for their programs. While prerequisites differ program to program, HPAO has various health professions’ course prerequisite lists that meet the requirements for entry to most health-related graduate programs. Please read your prehealth prerequisites page carefully and in its entirety. They are located here: Medicine, Dentistry, Physician Assistant, Optometry, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine.

Step 3. Watch the HPAO Orientation with the Director that is on Canvas
– In order to acquire individual advising from a peer-mentor, student assistant, or advisor, it is required to have watched the HPAO Orientation.

Please refer to the HPAO Orientation section on the modules page on Canvas in order to watch the video.

Step 4. For Advising : Who can I meet with to receive pre-health advising?
